Temp Gauge being erractic!

Hey, I'm so paranoid about high temps after reading stuff on here, so until we get the mason alarm and the haydn alarm fitted I'll be asking a few questions to make sure everything is OK!
I was driving along to work yesterday, 35 miles - averaging 50-60pmh and I noticed the temp gauge started flickering up and down when on the faster stretches of road, it would sit at the cold and then jump up and down, but when driving on the normal stretches of road it was fine. Any ideas?

Sounds like a fault in the temp sensor...wire..or gauge..

Bigblackbeastiebobbongo,
don't want to panic you but I had similar problem, it turn out to be the water pump. Easy job to fix and got it from the club shop. See the threads below for reassurance.

Hi
Having checked everything as suggested, there is another possibility, and that is the voltage stabiliser up behind the instruments somewhere....I had a similar problem some years ago on another car...the temp gauge was highly erratic.
Cheers

Thanks for your help! not sure what is up with it. We were out today on a 100 mile round trip and it was fine! *shrugs* Guess I will have to persue the temp sender and water pump ideas.
