Post by littlewoods » Sat Mar 15, 2008 11:00 am

any advice would be welcome my bongo has just failed the mot....it failed on nearside rear parking brake recording little effort... i would presume that new rear brake shoes are required ? question is
1. are the parts they easy to get hold off
2. is their anything else required for the job
3. is it a straight forward job.

its an aug 97

thanks

I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong but its pretty near imposible to wear the handbrake shoes down, unless they've been sticking on for a couple of thousand miles. Ideally the handbrake is only pulled on when stationary & is let off before you pull away so no friction involved.

It could be just a case of adjustment. . . . .

We used to get this a lot when I worked at a motor dealer. It's almost certain that the previous owner hardly used the handbrake and the cable/mechanism is stuck. Strip it down and release/lubricate the moving parts and it'll probably be OK.
