V6 petrol cambelt change

Post by squeaky » Tue Feb 26, 2008 9:35 am

Has anyone changed the cambelt themselves on a V6 petrol?
Was it difficult and how much will it cost for the parts, is there a tensioner and rollers etc etc. :?:
Any help on this would be appreciated as i'm looking to buy a V6 petrol Bongo from Jim, it's low mileage but being 11 years old I would like to change the belts if I get it!

I had mine done by Bell Hill Garage. It's a right sod of a job apparantly. The belt costs about £110, and is not found on any other vehicle except a Mazda 929 2.5litre. Bell Hill did not bother changing the other bits (tensioner and pullies) as they said they were pretty much indestructible.

Would you advise getting the belt changed as the Bongo is 11 years old or wait until it is due?

Personally I'd get it changed. You don't know how long your vehicle has been hanging around at the docks. Rubber becomes brittle if not used.
