As some of you may know I just replaced my radiator after it sprayed all over the windscreen. Took it for a test drive today and I was leaving great clouds of white smoke.

Got to the garage and he reckons the head gasket. He has quoted £400. Is this good?

What else could be wrong? Whats the worse case scenario?

cheers

boyzie

Hi Boyzie . Whats the worse case scenario? you ask ? the head is shot !
I have had 2 heads fitted in 8 months ! one by hillside under warranty and the last one i did myself as its out of warranty now... very easy to do, and quite good access. BOTH down to water leaks, on last head fitted i fitted the temp monitoring sys from Auzzie land ... but recomend you fit the Haydn system on when you have sorted it, Today i have just completed fitting a full silicone hose setup and also found the the hoses to the gearbox leaking so i siliconed them as well, its took me almost all day ! must be getting old ? I have one good hose left ... its the one from the fuel pump side down to steel hose, its only been on 2 weeks and is like new ...its the hose that usually swells bad on the first bend...ps its a genuine mazda hose.....its free on first come basis .......anyway many thanks and good luck Rich
pps can i just say how good / fit the silicone hose set is, well worth every penny.

Hope you get it sorted OK boyzie. And fit that low coolant warning alarm before the horse bolts out of the stable again. Good luck. Mike 8)

Hi flippa i first came across silicone hoses around 24 years ago when i worked as a bus fitter they were a wrapped type ..looked like bandages with silicone on ? very thick walls .....but the set off you were very plyable easy to fit and VERY good value for money i used proper jublee clips and they went on a treat ..just wondered flippa if you are thinking of doing any more hoses for the bongo ? can i just say my Freda has done 70.000 K and all hoses were hard and brittle so anyone reading this
CHECK YOUR HOSES any doubt get them changed dont risk your cyl head thanks Big Rich
