red bulbs in reversing lights

Post by helen&tony » Wed Feb 06, 2008 2:30 pm

Hi
I notice that it is possible to fit reversing lights (Aftermarket type)with red bulbs, to act as foglights....is this legal for a rear foglight in the EU, and , if so, do they give a good solid red light, as with a tinted lens cover. If so, I'm thinking of putting reversing lights in the bumper with some 35 watt or 55 watt bulbs, and using the reversing lamps in the light cluster as fogs...
Any opinions gratefully received
Cheers
Helen

Red bulbs are legal to use in rear foglights - don't think your allowed bulbs over 21W at the rear though.

Red bulbs are definitely available and OK - I've got them in my MX5. Have you found a supplier of flush mounted clear lens lights? I've been looking for some for ages! Ta Andy

red bulbs in reversing lights

Post by helen&tony » Wed Feb 06, 2008 3:00 pm

Hi
Thanks John and Andy.
I'm going to look for those 21W. red bulbs, and regarding the reversing lights, I'm going to increase the size of the holes already in the bumper to accomodate some 5" x 3" clear floodlights of which I can use the underside bolts on the fogs to attach to some home-made bracketry inside the bumper, and neaten the hole with a small "plasticard" frame painted black, with a couple of screws to hold it on, and give a more "factory" look..
I need the extra light power over here for reversing, as the bumper is often dirty, and I've a dark tint on the rear glass.
Cheers

I have the flush rear fog type lights but with clear lenses...

I simply carry a couple of red bulbs in the glovebox for fog conditions, or for the mot.

The clear versions seem to be quite tricky to source now, (i got mine from e-bay yonks ago)

I've had a few pm's over the months requesting info on em...

They are made by a company called "jokon" and are model number W3010.

alternatively, i reckon something like this would do the job nicely...(if you like chrome)

Or these....
