Bongo Fury

Been having some fuel starvation problems....highlighted today at the Townley CP meet when the engine continuously stalled on tickover.

Banjo filter removed (to be replaced later)..with no obvoious difference in performance.

Engine runs fine if revved but cuts out at low revs.

Then we noticed that when the engine stalled or when on tickover (which it would do for about 30 seconds) that there was a fuel drip coming from the pump.

Drip stopped after about 1 min if engine swithed off or immediately when engine was revved above 900rpm.

I've tried the search facility but not come up with any real suggestions.

1. Does anyone know where I can source a new pump if needed.

2. Does anyone know where I can get new seals if this is all that is required.


My usual sources like AVA and bongobits don't list them.

As I do a very high mileage and normally run on 50% rapeseed oil, it has been suggested that the veggie oil may have affected the seals..what do you think?

Sorry but don't know where he got the seals - I doubt if veggie oil is the problem, based on a previous poll.

When I asked Adrian at Bury about replacing seals he said he always removes the pump to do it - too tricky for someone like him to want to do in situ, though several members have managed it (I couldn't, my back gave out before I'd got anywhere ).

If the worse comes to the worst harry, a fully re-conditioned pump is in the region of £200!...Let's hope its the seals.

As soon as somebody clicks on here as to where the seals are obtainable from,i'm sure they'll post the info on em you require....

Sorry i was no use to you , the bongo engine is a mystery to me.

You help with enough stuff as it is dave...

Got my bongo to the garage after having to crank her up for about 15 minutes before she'd fire.

Arrived 10.00am with 'factsheet' as above.

Picked her up at 2.00pm running perfect.

Both seals changed for new 'green' ones.

£45 inc parts,labour & VAT.

No probs for first 40 miles (of 60 mile round trip fully loaded with birdfood) but now I've got a high pitched whine whenever I accellerate hard (like up steep hills or onto a duel carriageway. Sound dissapears as soon as I ease off on the accellerator.

Nothing except the fuel pump touched.

Any suggestions?

poss exhaust manifold stud sheared?

sounds like it, if not could be turbo

Had the same thought...manifold stud or tubo...must admit it sounds like the stud.

But why now?

I'll have a better look in daylight.

If it's running better and pulling better than if did before it's
most likely putting the manifold under more pressure than
it did, other wise cant think of ant reson why it should
sound any different than it did.
