Ford or Mazda dumb question

Post by WISHIHADABONGO » Sun Jan 27, 2008 6:43 pm

And befor u say it I.ve done a search and nothing answers my question, but by all means please post a link...

anyways here goes....

Senario....logbook says Mazda

no badges on van

ford badge on grill...

my question is there a way of telling if you own a Ford or a Mazda

For example if there are no badges on the van at all...

will the ford grill simply swap for a mazda one....????

and are there any other tell tale signs???

Thanx in advance....

They are exactly the same in all respects, except for the chassis number. A diesel Bongo will begin SGL3 (2WD)or SGL5 (4WD). A Ford will begin SGL3F or SGL5F.

The front bumper on fords are body coloured, whereas, on mazda's they are usually silent silver,or highlight silver.

It should say either mazda, or ford on the tax disc.

Like mike says, the interior trim differ, along with the grille.

Strangely, ford versions are less likely to have electric folding mirrors, electric blinds, and rear spoiler.... There is no set rules to bongo/freda spec ... i.e. GL, Ghia,Zetec, ST, RS, etc... You simply get what you get...

My bongo is officially a mazda, but, being a self confessed ford nut,i re-badged mine as a freda, but didn't take re-badging to the extreme of changing the interior, or colour coding the front bumper green.

Just goes to show, no two are alike. Mine's a Mazda and it doesn't have electric folding mirrors, only electrically adjustable ones. No electric blinds either.

There appears to be no set rules to the spec,on balance, the ford versions OFTEN have a lower spec to the mazda counterparts, not always, just often...

Hands up who has a freda with front fogs, electric blinds, electric folding mirrors, rear spoiler, and twin battery set up.... I may do a poll

Doh! I knew there was something else, the rad. grille. Cripes but I'm worried about my grey cells. No way I'd have forgotten that 6 months ago. Yep, the Freda looks like one of them things on Price TV that you can use for making chips out of potatoes.

Note to self: avoid BDC for sufficient time for him to forget I posted this  :? :?

Yip, they swap straight over either way, without any modification... The bonnet release catch is much easier to gain access to with the ford grille....

Interesting :-k I think the Ford grill looks better aswell, and I have noticed, what seems a weird setup for the bonnet catch, making it not the easiest to release. I've got the knack of releasing it now.

Your freda is a fully specced up version mark, with the mazdaspeed bodykit, chrome mirrors etc.... I reckon thats another indication as to why you have a full spec...

A fair proportion of fredas, are missing the leccy blinds, folding mirrors, rear spoiler etc... Some fredas have SOME of the options, very few have all....

I agree brora, the bigger slats in the ford grille, quite simply means that you can actually fit your fingers in to feel for the catch, its a tricky affair with the mazda grille.
