Help - 12V Adaptor Technical question

Post by Bongeezer » Sat Jan 26, 2008 4:29 pm

Sadly I have lost the 12V power supply to my boosted TV aerial. The box states it requires a 12V 100mA input, postive on the pin and negative on the sleeve. I can't seem to find one anywhere that matches this exactly but I've seen a multi adaptor on FleaBay for about a fiver which looks perfect apart from an 800mA output. Will this do the job or will it fry my power supply? All other suggestions welcome

If I am right, your booster needs a 100ma supply, and you are thinking of getting a power supply which has an 800ma output. If this is the case, you will be fine as the booster will only draw what it needs, i.e. 100ma. The remaining 700ma from the power supply will simply be unused capacity, there if needed to run something else with a higher power demand.

Outstanding - I was hoping that was the case, I just needed someone clever to confirm it! Thank you

If it wasn't and you connected a 12watt (1 amp) bulb across a 600amp battery you'd have a flash gun wouldn't you?

Current will only flow as allowed by whatever you connect, volts are the problem

I.E. don't connect a 6 volt thingy to a 12volt battery or you will have problems (you won't have the 6 volt thingy any more).
