Post by bournemouthken » Sat Jan 19, 2008 10:30 pm

Can anyone tell / show me exactly where I spray my disinfectant / air freshener onto the air con system, front and rear?
Cheers.

Don't bother! If you use the aircon regularly it shouldn't smell.

I don't know cos' I use mine all the time and it's never smelt
There have been threads on the matter and I assume it's in your heater inlet under the bonnet. When I worked in the motor trade we used to get lots of people in with smelly aircons, so we used to leave the cars ticking over with the aircon on for about half an hour - this usually fixed it, although occasionally it might take longer.

I did mine and I'm sure I took the cover off of something under the bonnet and sprayed it into the fan, It did seem obvious and easy to do - I saw the advice on the forum ages ago - I think it was mikeonb4c who did it. I've tried searching for the original post but cannot find it. Made a difference though. Also try driving around with it on for a bit - on hot/max etc

If you have your air con on fresh air, and on front and rear.
In the front over the radiator the intake goes into the blower motor - spray in there.
In the rear, the rearmost vent near the floor is split roughly 2/3 1/3.
The larger portion is the intake - spray in there.

This should help a little.

I did do mine with Dettol spray disinfectant - as madmile describes (exept I didn't know about the rear intake - I do now, and wish I'd known then). I had previously used one of the disinfectant 'bombs' (Comma make them) from Halfords. Mine is now much better though occupants still get a whiff from top vents in the rear when its first put on with hot air. Goes quickly though. Might give it another dosing soon just to track down the last of it if poss. 8)

PS - should have added I got the fan intake / Dettol trick from another BF member and can't remember who it was now

Hi,

The front air intake is under the bonnet. Large black plastic flat intake right at the front.

You can use a disenfectant air spray (very small amount) or some Tescos sell the comma air con cleaner and freshner for under £5.

No idea where the rear intake is.

I set the control switch to the left - the recycle mode - put on the engine and aircon and set the canister off in the van and go inside the house for a cuppa until it empties. This way it goes through all the air pipes.
