started to install my new speakers yesterday and i have hit a problem that i have read about but not heared a sollution for (please point me in the right direction if it has been posted already).
anyway..... I started at the rear passenger side, don't have rear speakers fitted as standard but was pleased to find the + and - wires tucked away for me saving me a load of bother. when i came to do the rear drivers side i couldn't find anything that looks like wires for the speakers, are they likely to be hidden away somewhere (which would be nice) or alternatively whats the best route to run new wire to the HU from the rear?
I have a feeling it might be a pig of a job so ive moved on to doing the fronts, another pain in the behind but nearly finished......nearly

I fitted 6x9's to the rear of mine and it was a real 'mare!! Apart from the fact that the originals were smaller, there is a chassis support bar just where you want to fit nice new big magnets. :?

My solution was to move the speaker back a little, cut the plastic trim panel to fit, and route wiring accordingly. It looks good.....but was the cause of 3 hours cursing!

As to wiring (or lack of) the Bongo is fab for removable panels so just route it down the side behind all the panels, or under the centre console and under the rear carpet if you can't be bothered.

What size speakers did you squeeze in the front?? I fancy changing them but it again looks a pig to do as the originals are mounted on spacers.

when i get the fronts all finished ill post some proper pics but for now you can kinda see how it sits. I went for 13cm infinity kappa comps up front after reading one of the posts on here saying that their kenwood 13's were a straight swap, thought it would be less hassle even though bigger would been better.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=014

these are the ones i got but my EASY fit wasn't as straight forward as i thought, they didn't fit in the spacers as the magnets on the back are a funny square shape. instead i removed the spacer altogether and drilled the rivets out of the door cards. ive now fitted the new fronts directly to the door card, not too much hassle but it took my head a little while to work our a solution (it was cold and my brain wasn't working very well)

needs a tidy up but you can kinda see how it sits. i thouht silver would be more subtle than black on the grey....... i was wrong, looks a bit nasty to be honest but i got em now.

My rear nearside speaker is not working but I cannot see how to ghet the panel off, I have tried the search but yet again I just get gobbledegook back, is it easy to do. Happy motoring.

The rear speakers are 6" x 8". The Pioneer TS H687 is a good quality direct replacement.

The panel that covers is just held on with clips so pulls off you just need to be careful not to break it

That's because there isn't one! the Bongo has a strange tri-aural speaker setup.

Yep there is one there, I just managed to prise the panel enough to see one but didn't want to pull any more in case I buggered it completely, now I know there are clips I can have a go, it seems a similar set up to my space cruisers.

Hi meek tv,
I did a bit of a write up in the past on my little stereo install, bit i'm buggered if i can find it now... It covered retro fitting rear speakers into the bongo.

I was lucky insofar that mine had all four speakers wired up, with all four speakers intact,i realize this isnt the case with ALL bongo's though...

From the front backwards....

A high end Sony Explod reference type head unit...driving a Sony Explod 6 mini-disc changer in the glovebox...

Image

I then fitted a pair of 6 inch Sony Explod mid range speakers behind the original front door speaker grilles,(hidden for security).

I fabricated a plastic shroud to help locate the speakers centrally.

Now the rear speakers, believe it or not, i managed to squeeze in some huge Kenwood 7x10's into the rear side panels! .

I had to mark, the cut out the original speaker grilles which are bonded into place on the bongo,if you look on the rear of the panel, there are "plastic welds" that need to be drilled out, then the false speaker cover can be pushed out of the panel.

I removed the two rear standard speakers, plus the cages that house them to fit the new Kenwoods...

Image

Image

At the moment, the head unit drives the front door speakers, plus the 7x10's,this will be ammended over the winter as i have a nice 4channel sony amp to add to the fusion 2 channel amp that is currently driving the fusion 12" subwoofer.

Image

Old pic.....

Current pic...

Image

The 4 channel amp will drive the front speakers, and the 7x10's,the two channel amp (bridged) will remain for the sub, the four available channels remaining on the head unit will power some "tune up" tweeters in the front, and mid sections of the bongo. (when i get round to pulling all the panels off again  )

To remove the rear panels...Undo the rear seat belts and fold them over the tailgate struts out of the way, (dont forget and close the tailgate  ) Then remove the rear seats (seat if its a bench).

I think there are a couple of screws to remove from the panel cubby holders too, remove these, and the cubbies.

Then, carefully, using just your fingertips, gently pull the panel far enough out to get your fingers behind the lip of the panel... Go around and around the panel, easing it off as you go,when you are happy you have freed it up all round, give it a firm (yet straight) yank, and the whole panel should pop straight off...You wont like the noise it makes, you'll think you have broken something....

When replacing the panel, have a quick check that all the fasteners are in place for the panel clips to click into...

As a post note...its a good job i decied to fit my stereo gear....The rear most seat belt anchors were only just finger tight....god knows how long it'd been like that!

I know this is a thread about rear speakers but i was wondering will 5x7's fit in the front doors behind the covers that are already there???

Any one done or tried it??

tidying up the fronts a bit with some thick card and a bit of grey leatherette/vinyl stuff i got off ebay. not quite right so i will probably redo it but i think it looks better than it did.
from this

to this

got the passenger side rear in, it was a bit tight so i cut the panel slighty differently on the drivers side to find that the speaker now fowls the metal panel behind. i will have to wait untill i can fabricate some mdf baffles for it now to pull it away from the panel (or relocate it and leave the big gaping hole that ive recently hacksawed out of the side)

:'(

you're assuming im the sort of person who:
1- checks before they cut bits of their car up
2- listens to good advice
3- knows what they are doing in the first place

now ill probably find out that the seats get in the way when i need an 8" thick baffle. but i wont check until ive done all the work
