Faulty autobox?

Post by kloonsy » Sun Dec 30, 2007 9:31 pm

Being new to Bongos and also automatics, im not sure if this is a problem/fault or a bongo/auto trait. When driving at 30/40 it seems to be revving too high and reluctant to change into top. Revs are approx 2500.

any takers?

Could be just the cold weather and probably needs a service, new fluid and clean the filter. Best I can do.

Is it happening just for the first few minutes/miles? I've noticed a big difference in the auto gearchanges on the colder days, fine as soon as it warms up after the first few miles though
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

D3 is right :)
Mine on really cold days takes 2 miles to warm-up and go into overdrive / lockup. Try just lifting off the accelerator pedal a bit this may help it change up as full throttle will keep it in a lower gear. Hope this makes sense?

Do you know the last time the gearbox was serviced? There is some very good fact sheets on the main Bongo Fury web site, check them out. :D

Have you checked the oil level with the engine running, foot on brake, handbrake on, up & down through the gears, then check the level (& colur/smell) in D.
If that's ok then as max says as first option.

It's normal on cold days for it to rev a bit but once warmed up
say about 2 miles it should lock up at about 37mph on light
throttle the revs then drop to about 1500 even if you don't feel
it you will see it on the rev counter.
Its a 4 speed and lock up first to second can be a bit noticeable
on mine but often cant feel the rest,

In the course of my buisness i visit a auto transmission specialist and hes offered to flush the box out so i,ll take it tomorrow now i know its not as it should be. My warranty runs out on 7th Jan so need to get it on record if fluid change dont help

Does the hold light work if not is there a bulb in it?
if no put one in see if it is flashing if so that indicates
a auto box fault.
