New Owner!!!!!!! Help needed!!

Post by Wi11iBongo » Tue Oct 16, 2007 9:03 pm

Hi All, As topic says im a proud new bongo owner :D I've just imported a 2L petrol yr2000 tintop model. Has anyone had experience with this model?

Finding info very thin on the ground for it!!! Basically I'm trying to get some knowledge of whats needed for the SVA test, I know it needs a fog lamp and the speedo needs to be sorted (seen kmph>mph converters on ebay dont know how god they are though!!)

Any Info greatly appreciated

Hi Wi11iBongo and congratulations on your purchase :D

I don't know much about SVA etc, but as for the speedo why not get a new dial/clock from a scrappy, plenty posts on here about suitable dials. Converters I hear can cause problems?.

As far as I know, it does not matter about the mileage being in km's (mine still is)

I dont know if the 2lt petrol is the same speedo face as the diesel, but if it is then Bongo bits have got the new shape speedo faces in - why bother with a replacement speedo when a £10 face is all thats required?
I am not an expert on SVA, but I wasn't aware that a model report was available for a 2.0lt petrol?

Thanks for the welcome and the swift replies!! :D Is it a big job to replace the speedo face, do I need to remove the dash board etc.? did have a browse through the topics but couldnt find anything on it. As regards SVA test I keep comming across statements about model reports and other stuff I'm not sure about Will read the pda doc, thanks again!

What does that mean to me in real terms? I'm still not 100% clear on the model report stuff.

Not a big job, If I remember right, just needed a screwdriver and the disconnection of switches (fog light etc)

This might give you an idea :? ( first picture on third page)

Welcome Wi11iBongo - cant help on the SVA business I'm afraid. I've a vague feeling there is a factsheet in the Members Area - have you tried there?

The SVA test in addition to a few simple jobs(on a Bongo) requires the use of a model report to compare it with certain information prepared on a certain type of Bongo. If there is not a model report available for your particular model then putting it simply you cannot pass an SVA test.
The reason I dont think there is one for a 2lt petrol is that one of my trade customers has a 2lt that he has asked me to convert to a camper for him, and normally he sells them unconverted.

The speedo face swap is a 20 minute job. The most difficult part is prising off the needle with the use of a teaspoon!

thanks for the replies. It's looking grim then   Can anyone confirm madmile's post? Also I take it from the reply that If it's converted to a camper then the SVA test is not required?

Correct - no SVA if converted. The trouble is that 2.0 litre vans are rarer than hen's teeth, so not much to go on for a model report.

Topic covered less than two weeks ago here:

http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... del+report

How did I find that?

The much maligned search facility!

Code: Select all

Thanks for the reply Trevor, I did read that earlier but as I say, didn't have much idea what a model report was etc. also topic was regarding a freetop but I guess it applies to tintops too. :(
