Antifreeze

Post by RobnKathryn » Thu Sep 20, 2007 1:30 am

All the water ways in the 80,000 mile engine I've just fitted are amazingly clean compared to the state of the ones in the 90,000 mile engine I took out. The coolant in the new engine was green..........I've only seen blue stuff on sale............anyone know what the green stuff might be because I'd like to use it if I can find it!

Thanks........Rob

No :? The blue stuff is glycol based as well. In fact AFAIK they all are. I think the colour is just an additive so that you don't drink it (as if!). I seem to remember buying some Unipart stuff once and that was green. Supposed to change colour if the dilution factor went too low.

The common colours I am aware of are:
Pink (mostly german)
Blue (used to be Ford but not many still use it new)
Green - the most common.

You can mix blue and green. (Green turns blue antifreeze green if topping up.) The colour designates it as a particular type of coolant. You can buy the green stuff from any car accessory shop.
