How easy / is there instructionctions on how to do an oil change? At one every 3,000 miles I can imagine not difficult but expensive if a garage has to do it 7 times a year...

Why at 3000 miles the bongo is not that delicate I do mine every six months and it has been fine for four years. Happy motoring. Forgot to say I just had mine done after six months bought the oil at Lidls, seems good stuff too, garage was impressed with it only was £6.00 for 5 litres, oil change cost a tenner and the filter £8.00 at my local motor factors. Can't do it meself anymore cause of the arthritis...oh the joys of getting old.

Dead easy to do. 15/20 mins to do oil & filter once you get the containers/funnel/sockets together.

Or do a Search on BF for 'Pela' and see how much easier it is if you purchase a Pela 6000 pump.

Got a pela pump. Don't use it for engine oil changes. Bongo is about as easy as it gets.

Solution Details Mazda quote 10w/30 oil for the Bongo. This oil type is available almost anywhere now even Tesco stock it.

Buy a cheap washing up bowl and a funnel.
Locate the sump plug(nut) place the bowl under it I also put a bin liner on the ground just incase, undo the nut using a 19mm socket.

Drain the oil into the bowl and then into the empty oil container when you have refilled the Bongo. You may need an extra empty 2 litre drinks bottle. Your local recycle centre should have a facility for waste oil.

You should also change the copper washer on the sump plug to avoid any leaks.
A word of warning on replacing the copper washer, get the exact size as an oversize washer will impinge on the sump.

Don`t forget to change the filter, it is supposed to be changed every other oil change.

The oil cap is located under the passenger seat.
It takes 6L to fill a Bongo but always check the levels after filling and top up if required.

Copper washer size?

I'll have to pass on that. I've never bothered to change one of these washers in 46 yeays and never had a problem (or a leak)

If the washer is solid copper and it will come off
without butchering it you could heat it a dull red with
a blow lamp or on the stove and drop it into cold
water wile still hot and it will go nice and soft just
like a new un.

The sump plug washer of a Ford Ranger fits perfectly and only costs just over 80p from a Ford dealers - I know because thats what I use.

Lidl 15/40 oil is only API CF4 (introduced 1990), you can get API CH4 (introduced 1998) at Asda for same price.

Er......it is supposed to be 5/30. That's what the manual says anyway. When I suggested to my mechanic that I didn't think it would matter that much, he went red and gave me a bollocking.

i just finished my first diy oil change on the bongo ,using the pela yawn
i used castrol gtd plus 10w-40 ...api cf....acea b3.....it was old stock sitting on the shelf gathering dust at 3.99 for 5 ltrs i helped myself to 10 ltrs ..i never changed the filter this time ,was changed in april, will do next oil change . not a great acheivement in the scheme of things but for me its the first time ever i have changed the oil on any vehicle and judging by what i used to get charged the pela has just paid for itself
