Compressor O-rings !!

My AC system has failed to hold gas ever since an engine change 6 months ago (I was not owner then).
I've since discovered after re gassing the system and listening for leaks, that one of the connections to the compressor does not have an o ring!! (I'm assuming there should be one there).
Can anyone confirm for me if any automotive o ring (correct size obviously!) would be suitable or are they specials?

I don't think they are a special material. There is nothing particularly dodgy about R134a.
