No 1 Exhaust Stud - WHY??????

Post by shane.h » Sun Sep 02, 2007 1:32 pm

Hi I am a new Bongo Owner.

When I picked up my Bongo Im sure it did not squeal but now it does and reading the fabulous info on this site I found it to be the No1 Exhaust Stud.

These surely dont sheer off on there own - Do they?
Or
Was I that enthuisiastic about my bongo I did not hear the squeal when I picked it up?

I have ordered one from Ian but I am curious how long it will last if they self destructive.

Great site

Happened to me too - common problem with Bongos. I had the set changed & the gasket to reduce chance of it happening again. Try using the search facility on the forum & I think you'll find a couple of theories about why it's always no.1 that goes.

I had it happen when I first got mine. Fitted a new stud (mine had come loose not sheared) with Loctite and torqued it up and never had any more problem in two years and 20,000 miles. Sorry, cant remember the torque setting but I think it is in the workshop manual.
