It will only start when in N or P. The clicking could be faulty contacts in the starter motor. Do a search on the subject as there are ways to considerably reduce the cost of a new or exchange unit.

Stu-b, if it is your starter contacts, give Auto Electrical Supplies (Southampton) Ltd a ring on 023 80 211988 ask for Paul. Part no. *230221/13256 plunger and contacts, £16.45 inc. vat and postage (or it was in June when I did mine). There is a tutorial somewhere on the the site, but it's only a 20min job

. Shakey.

shakey,
Are those parts the same if the Bongo has the winter pack fitted which I believe has a uprated starter fitted? Thanks

Haydn, you got me there feller, I haven't a clue, mine is a softy, warm climate 2wd

, sorry. Those parts are both the same size, whereas my Bongo originally had one contact a slightly different length on its circumference, but they fitted the starter fine and I've had no problems since. I suggest try to find a manufacturers part no. on the starter and give them a ring, very helpful guys, they stated they didn't do mail order 'till I said it was a long way to collect from Lancashire, so they posted them.

Shakey.
