Fuel indicator dial

Post by frank scalzo » Mon Aug 20, 2007 10:22 am

Has anyone had this problem and what could be cause - most importantly how do I rectify. Since buying my Bongo about 1 1/2 year ago I have only ever been able to put £30 of desel, I never realy took much notice and on hidsight should have taken it back to the dealer, latley the fuel dail pointer which after filling is at half way mark moves down to empty mark rather quickly - sometimes after travelling about 70 miles, it then after a while moves back up but to the level at which it should have moved to after normal operation, at present I am using trip counter and fill up (£30 that is) at or near the 200 mile mark.
I spoke to a garage and they mentioned; fuel pump, blockage in tank & electrics - however I wanted to see if there is somethings I can do to avoid the garage costs if at all possible.
If anyone can help answer this I would be most grateful.

Look for previous threads on this. It's pretty common and is often due to a bad earth on the sender unit. I think there's a factsheet or maybe it's covered in the Clinic.

Also make sure nobody's jacked the van up by the fuel tank - that'll reduce the capacity by a fair bit
