Quick job! Saved by a Yen!

Post by Ricardo » Mon Aug 20, 2007 10:19 am

Just a thought for those who fancy turning the bench seat around. I did it this morning in 10 minutes! I am a language teacher, not a mechanic by the way, working with tools many would find shameful.

Anyway, as I wasn't sure if I wanted them reversed premanently, I went for just turning the seats around, making sure that before I did that the unit was slid as far to the front of Minty Bongo as possible until it clunked into place.

Then I undid the bolts, lifted and turned the seats through 180 degrees. Then I put the bolts back in. Nice job, trouble was, being 6'4 my drivers seat was wedged too far forward to drive confortably, although I could have folded the bench seat to cater for this. This peed me off rather.

Here is the magical bit. I spotted a coin resting in one of the runners, yes! A Japanese Yen coin! Currently worth £0.004 I had to have it, given my current wages. I order to grab the treasure, I needed to undo the inside side panel which is under bench seat, giving me access to the fortune and the seat release mechanism which will not function unless you go for the runner reversal job. I found the I could lift the release mechnism with a screwdriver. Bingo! Cunningly doing this the other side at the same time allowed me to slide the bench to the next click!

This is a how-to which could save you time if you don't want to play with the rails. I think I will just pack two screwdrivers for the rare instances when I need a flat bench bed.

Now I have a quiet second lounge in which to mark my books!

It has probably taken you longer to read this than it will to perform the op.
Hope this is helpful.

Next stop lap belts.
