Bongo Fury

any more suggestions....... have got a rattle which sounds like its coming from the passenger foot well. only does it when stationary...

worse with the air con on and even nosier when in reverse and stationary...

can not hear it at all whilst driving along,

engineer thought the gear box bush/mount, but no thats not it,

he took a look again yesterday and a plastic shield on the bottom underneath was loose, so tightened that and not that either.....

any other suggestions,

he also checked the engine mounts.....no not that.....

exhaust.........no


running out of ideas now............

sounds tinny and like a floor board rattling...........

andandden had a rattle it turned out to be a pipe touching metal cover over engine, tied it down and no more rattle so look for any loose pipes ,easy fix for them hope it is for you.

Are all 3 clips on the central cowling secure?

power steering pump??. Does the noise get less when you turn the steering wheel a bit ??

thanks for those, it does not do it at all when being driven, its something that vibrates very loudly.....when i am stationary and it rattles if i give it a little more revs it goes............ will get the central cowling checked

Power steering pump!!!

thats a good one...........ummmmm, i wonder, it is that sort of a noise.....every time my engineer turns up it does not do it,,, he thinks ive lost the plot, especially when i rang him from my mobile this morning at 8 o clock and played him live rattle music!!! he he.....there can you hear it.......he said take the bloody thing out of reverse to shut that dam beep up and i might be able to......chuckle chuckle.........

it sounds like a metal cake tin full of cake bouncing around under the foot well........

aint it hard to describe a noise......

Just another possibility...........under the central cowling the throttle cable is secured to the front of the cam cover, with a metal bracket and nut/bolt....if the nut and bolt loosen and fall off which is not uncommon, then the bracket will vibrate against the cam cover or some other metal component. This sounds unlikely as you say the noise is nearside...but it can easily be checked by lifting the drivers seat and following the thick black throttle cable until you find the bracket..just make sure it is tightly secured.

Anyway I would lift both drivers and passengers seats then run the engine at tickover and at revs up to about 2500 rpm to see if you can get a better idea of the source of the noise.

does the noise lessen when you move the steering wheel???

oh its good here aint it.........will give the steering wheel a turn later....what does that mean then if the rattle stops whilst im stationary and turning the wheel........

my engineer is going to love me, i keep printing off your answers....he he....got to keep the old chap earning his money.....bless him,

Have you looked in your glove box to see if there is any loose change etc. in it rattling around?

If not then park on level ground, engine off, handbrake on, wheels chocked and have a good look underneath and shake everything that looks as if it may vibrate when the engine is running.

Is this a new noise ???
If it lessens when you move the steering wheel it will be the power steering pump. Most Bongos do it to some extent. Depends how bad it is. Mine is quite noisy and so are most I have listened to.
If thats what it is I wouldn't worry to much.
Check the fluid level!!

someone once said to me you get a rattle under the passenger side below the glovebox when the fan blower is out of balance, having heard it its not something that mine has but its like a fan rubbing against something.
again might be something to check.
