Are you sure? The mirrors and radio and I think the blinds also work off an ignition switched feed. The locking should work straight off the battery. Maybe your setup has been changed from the factory setup. Have you checked the fuse panel at the bottom of the steering column? Any additional wires going into it that have come adrift or broken?

definitely sure. i used to operate radio and blinds without ignition on and closed mirrors as i stepped out of van with my keys. also when my keys are in ignition i can control the central locking but not from outside. i presumed the leisure battery wasn't working for radio and blinds etc but fridge and interior lights all work.

As you have a leisure battery, I'm guessing that some circuits have been moved to it from the ignition controlled circuit. I still think it will be to do with the wiring modification but without having the details of how that was done it's a bit like shooting in the dark. Presumably 123 made the mod, have you tried giving them a call?

thank you. i did call them and they said it sounded strange and that i should bring the van in but didn't want to travel that far if it was just something simple. i might ask them for a wiring diagram for their modification and try and trace it from their. i'll also start looking for any obvious loose wires.

Assuming this is a standard mod they do on all their Bongos then yes a wiring diagram would be good

in terms of just looking at wiring behind ignition, how do i take of plastic covering around st wheel column. is it just a case of undoing three screws and pirizing it apart?

No no don't touch the steering column. Remove the fusebox cover then undo the two screws. The whole fuse panel should pull down enough to give you access to the back (careful). Take a look here for any loose or additional wires.

ok thank you very much. i have actually found the problem now in that a 25 amp fuse had blown that was inline with a wire connecting to the leisure battery. hopefully this was due to excess rain and stuff last fri when it started. however, the modification takes lots of wires to one connection at the back of the fuse box and i can't say i'm too impressed with half insulation tape, cracked solder and frayed wires showing. i've covered it with more tape but if the fuse goes again i'll be back to get it fixed under it's warranty. thanks again, what a brilliant site. couldn't have done it without you.

Oh I'm sure you would have. Don't leave it too long to get it sorted under the warranty though - they soon run out.
