The Kitebongopeople Thread

Post by Kitegirl » Sun Jul 08, 2007 12:31 pm

So it appears there's a few of us kitesurfer/kitelandboarder/kitebuggier types who have Bongos too now.

AWESOME!!! 8)

Would be great to meet up at some point, but let's begin with finding out who y'all are and where your local beach is :)

As for meeting up..

Would be great to get together and have our own little kitebongomeet eh? I hear there were 6 at Ainsdale yesterday.. looks like they got ahead of the game there!

I'm doing the Follow The Wind tour up the west coast of Scotland, finishing at the BKSA event in Aberdeen, then heading over to Tiree for a week at the end of August if anyone can make it? It's not just a kitesurfer trip, land types welcome too! Balmedie where the Aberdeen event is has a 13 mile beach... a buggiers dream apparently

More info on kiteboarder.co.uk in the events section.

Other than that, am probs going to Hunstanton or Blackpool/Ainsdale next weekend if anyone's around.. it'll depend on the forecast.

I hear there's a kite party weekend down the Gower the last weekend in July. It's an area I've never been to and have been wanting to for yonks.. maybe we could all meet up there?! I'd think this is probs the best bet, as it's an area we all should visit and probs don't as it's so far away.

If it's not logistically possible to meet up, at least we'll know where the other kitebongopeople are if we're visiting their beach

I'll start the ball rolling then, my local beach is Fraisthorpe.. best landboarding beach on the east coast, bar none :) it takes anything southerly to northerly but is best in a south easter.. I also go Cleethorpes a lot if it's easterlies for the butter flat lagoons

Who's next?

Go big,

Dee

PS I swing all ways  Buggy, board and sail. Will snowkite too if I ever get the chance.

Balmedie is great providing the Har doesn't show itself.
I lived in Inverurie for a number of years which is 16 miles inland. Some days it was bikini weather (for the girls) inland and a real pea-souper (coats & scarves at Balmeadie.) But you're right, a wonderful beach if the weather is good.

OK so I'm nearly a member of the KiteBongoPeople Club (I have paid a deposit on a Freda AFT)

Local beach is Ainsdale. I do travel to North Wales quite a bit as well.

3 KiteBongos on the beach yesterday plus a couple of others.

I have been buggying and landboarding for 3+ years.
Spent 2 weeks in Norway earlier this Snowkiting - thanks to the guys a Turbulence for organising the trip.
Had my first day on the water yesterday and might be officially hooked - got up and going almost first time :D :D .

Hope to be at a KiteBongo meet soon. I'll borrow from the dealer if i have to....

Well its really Adam who's the kitesurfer in our gang and our local beach is probably Blackpool, but you can also find us hanging around at Rhosneigr, Newborough and Lligwy in North Wales.
Would my abilility to fly a buzz really well let me in your gang??

P.s there is a top campsite in rhosneigr that we have been going to for a number of years now, that could be a good venue for a kitebongo meet?? 2 mins away from beach and a great kitesurfin vibe too.

What dya reckon???

My 'local' beach is Lemmings beach at the bottom of Happy Valley, Episkopi, in Cyprus, and it rocks!! 8) :D 8) Any of you guys heading over to Cyprus should give me a shout and we (Mrs Powerslide kites too! 8) ) will show you the best beaches! There is also a huge salt flat which is great for buggies and boards.

We will probably be back in the UK in about 14 months  , planning to drive back, via Italy. Kiting along the way! :D

Any one have any kite specific mods to recommend?

This is a great thread. I dont really understand any of it, but it sounds great fun for the young and fit.

I had a scary moment when I misread kitegirl saying
a buggiers dream apparently
. Then I spotted the 'i' before the 'e'. Gave me quite a turn I can tell you. Had to make a cup of tea and sit down with me gingernuts.

Temperature of the water is lovely we've been on shorty for a while now

Hi all.
Stuck slap bang in the middle of England so my nearest beach is never more than 2-3 hours drive
Usually fly at Airtross world ( the Airfield ) but have been known to hit Clegg, Old Hunstanton and Llangenith (sp).
Fly B IV's with a buggy strapped to me ass

Brilliant!! There's loads of us!!!

Some I know, and some I've never heard of. Awesome

Winds this weekend looking pants, which is typical as I have the weekend off :(

Liking the sound of a Rhosneigr meet, had my best session of the summer last year there and just been to Egypt with Caroline from Funsport!

(@Mike - you don't have to be young, I know a number of kitebuggiers and kitesurfers in their 60s  and you're never too old to have a go on a powerkite)

Right, well, let's pray for wind over the next few weeks, if anyone fancies the Gower trip the last weekend in July let me know, or anyone Scotland ways fancy meeting up on the tour give us a shout - there's at least one other kitebongogirl coming to that one too!

Go big,

Dee
