:shock:Hi, All This is my first post the old bongo is a little poorly. Goes fine if i'm gentle with her but when i put my foot down the kick down occurs, but the drive feels as though i've hit a rev limiter and black smoke pours out !! any suggestions.

Not sure about the black smoke but performance wise it sounds like a clogged fuel filter.

good luck

check the little filter under the banjo on the top of the injector pump. fiddly devil but usually get clogged up. black smoke usually means fuel problems ie
its getting starved of fuel

All sounds probable as she was running fine then suddenly wouldn't pull at all max speed about 50 mph then things slowly improved, and she is quite drivable but struggles to get above 3500 revs

ours changes gears at 3500rpm, with foot flat to floor it changes at 4000rpm. is it change gears ok, also it sounds daft have you checked the air filter or that the intake isnt blocked, this happened to ours and i found a spare bottle of water had got stuck over the air intake under the bonnet, no power over 2500 rpm when putting foot down, didnt do it when gentle acceleration.

Also check that the big black plastic air hose hasn't worked loose at the point where it meets the curved metal junction piece to the right of the inlet manifold. This can be seen by lifting the drivers seat and looking top left and back a bit!
If you get a sort of sucking noise on acceleration, then this is may well be the problem.
This wouldn't account for black smoke though I'm afraid.

I would have thought that black smoke indicated excess fuel, so I wouldn't expect the fuel filter to be blocked. More likely the air filter, or something obstructing the air intake.

I'll do some checking of the things suggested, but my feeling is i need a bongo person to take a look for me, is there any bongo specialists in the essex area.

hi b king
had same problem last september its a small filter in the fuel line banjo (fuel pump end) its no bigger than the tip of your small finger you will need a pair of tweesers to get it out (i thought it was my turbo but was this instead)cleaned it and the problem was solved instantly .good luck
