I did this at the weekend - pump method fnaaaar - and took out 3 3/4 litres and put back 4 litres. Have to say muuuuuch smother on the gear changes and no audible clunk which prompted the change.

Have to say I jacked up the rear on alternative sides and got more out with the pump - really do think I got as much of the oiul out that I could with this method.

The best pump for this job is a Pela 6000, guide price about £30 + postage. It can be used for engine oil changes as well. It holds 6 litres.
Do a search for 'Pela' on this forum and there's a recent post with lots of info.
There are cheaper syringe type arrangements, but I think false economy.

Someone else's tip - nice cheap option - dead easy to clean, not sure if I would do a full engine oil change with it though but did the atf just dandy.

You do need to go to B and Q and get a slightly longer tube though - cost about £1.60.
