Help - remote central locking (oh no not again - sorry)

Post by Griffin » Fri Jun 22, 2007 12:00 pm

Hi Guys, I bought the kit a while ago after reading the other posts. I have the control unit plus a 2 wire actuator. The control unit has all sorts of wires on it and the instructions are at best vague.

I have
Purple to parking lights (assume not required)
Pink to trunk release (not required ?)
Red to +ve (will take source from exsiting plug)
Purple - output to parking lights (not required?)
Black - grund - will use a bolt

Then I have Orange, white, yellow, orange/black, white/lack, yellow/black - all saying 'to central lock). I assume that the feed for the actuator should be a couple of this lot but which ones ?????? Of these the white and the black/white wires both have fuses but the others dont.

I've read the members factsheet and a number of other posts - it seems I am the only one that doesn't understand - HELP :D

Would love to have a go at it thisafternoon - any experts around in their lunch break that can help ?

Following on from last thread, I am still stuck. I have proved that the Purple (parking lights) does send out 12V as it's supposed to. The pink does the same and will activate an actuator (but only 1 way).

Still cant get any of the others to register a voltage irrespective of which order I measure them in (eg Orange to ground or orange to yellow etc).

Getting disappointed now, what am I doing wrong ? I am sure (hoping) I will kick myself soon !!!!!

Hi Waycar8 - your absolutely right, I hadn't realised that I ommitted the obvious. The unit is just a remote control unit and I know others on here have used it as this is where I got the recomendation :)

The unit is made by Steeli Men (yes really), model SM-188 (I have already Googled for instructions with no luck)

I got it from ebay
http://tinyurl.com/269kjz

Also bought a 2 wire slave actuator.

The most obvious thing to do is to contact the seller which I have tried to do twice now without any luck. I'm not saying he is bad, he could just be on hols or something.

Hope that jogs someones memory :?:

well if you look on the actual advertisment on his ebay listing it states

Negative pulse central locking
Positive pulse central locking
Pneumatic central locking(audi/vw)
Pos/Neg additional solenoid control

so if you look in your book see if it states which color wire is for which one, you will be ble to eliminate thew wires you dont need, i am not an expert but you need the Pos/Neg additional solenoid control one

sorry cant be any further help

regards wayne.

Central remote locking wiring problem - resolved.

Post by Griffin » Tue Jun 26, 2007 2:50 pm

Waycar8 - thank you for responding I appreciate it although being told to read the manual (RTFM) following a number of hours frustration is bordering on taking the mickey :x .
I know what the manual says and what he ebay advert says - it is the interpretation of those insructions that are difficult to understand. There is no 'put the orange wire on the actuator' type instructions just a very dodgy (in my view) schematic of what is required.

Anyway to finish on a positive, the seller has responded (he is on hols in spain) - although he couldn't explain exactly as he had no reference he managed to explain things enough to get me going on the right rack again.

Thankfully I now know what to do so am a happy bunny again. :D

Will be fitting this weekend if the weather holds out. Should anyone be in the same position (and I know it's unlikely) you need:

white + white/black to the actuator
Yellow + Yellow/Black to +ve
Orange + Orange/black to earth

Plus the usual Red +ve and Black -ve feed

The install diagram does make sense once you understand it but it's not how I'd draw one.
Hope that helps someone else, the product by the way is good and now I know how it works I'd recommend.

Tis all sorted - kit fitted this evening and after some fiddling I have remote central locking :D :D :D

Didn't put the actuator where the factsheet in the members area says, instead mounted it practically next to the 'up/down' button at the top right of the drivers door. Seems to be plenty of room there so I just shortened the joining rod.

Thanks waycar8 my comments were bourne from frustration more than anything else, I still appreciated the reply. Often it is the obvious things that need pointing out 8)

Now onto the stereo.......................................

Fact sheet suggests bottom left o you need (I guess) about a 12" extension bar ........ ooo eeerr .........instead of about 1 inch where I have put mine.

Just seemed the logical place for me.
