Any sparkys out there tell me if this sensor wire can be extended [ if so with which size wire ] without impeding performance of unit?

Provided its not a Thermocouple type sensor but is a Thermistor or other electronic type sensor then no problem in extending the wires nothing special required, other than making sure the insulation can withstand the heat of the engine bay. Even if its is a Thermocouple type it can be extended but just need to be a little careful in making sure that you use identical type of wire for both connections - however is unlikely to be a thermocouple anyway (just covering the possibility!).
Size of wire same as on the unit already, its not taking any massive current at all so can be quite thin, but best to use automotive wiring cable that can withstand the heat and abrasion.

What about some 24 gauge speaker wire??? Keep the solder joint V tidy & to a minimum.. (No big blobs.)
Just an idea! Where's Geoff...
Just as i was posting... Nice one Geoff!!

It is a Thermistor probe!

Thanks guys , if mr . chinaman doesn't come up with a longer wire i'm going to extend it , although having since seen a unit that matches the voltmeter i might just buy that and tell 'im he can have his back for having the cheek to ask $4 for something i've already paid for !!

Hi again all,
received my gauge today...will try to fit later
anyway the feebay seller has a has a manual down load available here
http://www.sure-electronics.net/download/
which answers most questions, eg how to change 'C-'F, cable type, wiring method etc

I too have one of these digital gauges, bought a few weeks ago and fitted it last week into the dash and routed the probe to under the bonnet ready for attaching to the cooling system, I was just going to jubilee clip it to one of the metal cooling pipes under the bonnet, which would be the best one to use?
Cheers

Hi Tony
Depends on what you want to look at. Different folk want to look at different things.
Speaking for myself (and a few others), the top hose is a good place to fasten it, ideally as near to the head as you can get it. Mine's fixed to the metal stub coming out of the head. Bitch to get to, but well worth the effort. (edit: see Jaylee post)
This temperature will reflect quite closely what the thermostat is doing. It is also the highest temperature the coolant will ever get.
Jaylee beat me to it.

...Toooo fast Jamie

Look forward to seeing pics. Would be nice if you could post some data for comparison once you get up and running.
All Bongos are individual and will give slightly different readings, but the general layout will be similar.
