I think they say "avoid the header tank" because a lot of header/expansion tanks are simple expansion tanks and do not have a flow of coolant through them.....the bongo does have a flow so I suspect it would be o.k.
It said that on the chemical flush I just used...I put it in the tank and it worked fine through the whole system

we bled her again this morn, hardly any air inside. been out in her twice, no problems, seems to have sorted the prob all be it on a temp basis.

K seal sounds like the old Bars Leaks, which some folks on here probably remember - coppery tablets you put in the coolant, or a similar mixture in a plastic bottle.

Not used it for years, but it was the saviour of a few of my cars at uni when a weeping rad meant a term's grant down the toilet, or time spent hunting round scrapyards when I should have been reading dull books

well we got there
but then she overheated on a big long hill on teh way home
stopped aand let her cool dwn and carried on our way, when we got home water started coming out at the front again.
just been out to bleed her and the bleed pipe looked like a volcano!!

anybody wanna buy a bargin bongo??? in need of some tender loving care??

on a serious note guys, any ideas who to contact dwn this end of the country to sell her on for spares etc.
dont have the money to fix her and as much as I love her I think its the only way to go.

have tried to ring a couple of places but only managed to get through to The mazda bongo company, who said ring us back when you know how much you want for it??????

in her current condition I dont have a clue, she has some rust (dont they all) on the arches and the windscreen pillar and a bit around the roof, the exhaust centre section needs replacing, and obv an unknown prob with cooling system. oh and she needs a new rear light cluster.

any ideas on value guys.

Wasn't there one up here with terminal rot for £1000 or so recently?

I'd say with a blown engine and rusty bodywork, you'd be looking at something a bit less than that, no?

How sad to have a Bongo that you can't afford to fix but ....... before you get rid of it, please consider the fact that any vehicle you buy to replace it is likely to be cheap (ie will cost no more than you get for the Bongo) and may also turn into a money pit. You've probably already done it but I would get a realistic estimate for the repair to the Bongo before I wrote it off and I would balance out the cost of the repair (and how long it would take to save up for it, and what transport you would use in the meantime) against a cheap runaround which may need a few hundred quid paying out first time it's MOTd.

Meanwhile, if you really must get rid, have you tried Janner's Pitstop in Bodmin (not sure if they break Bongos, but they are certainly a Bongo garage and could probably offer some advice) and also Bongo Bits in Plymouth (they must break Bongos as they sell used parts as well as new ones).

I considered giving mine a Viking Funeral a couple of months back but have begged, borrowed & scrimped to get the old boy back on the road (yes - mines a boy) once & for all & I'm SO glad I did.

I genuinely had forgotten how good these beasts can be but now its home, despite the fact that since June I've been spanking around in a 140mph MX6 when its been wet or on a 190mph motorbike when its not , the Bongo is without doubt the finest, most fullfilling vehicle I've ever had the pleasure to drive.

Short term, keep an eye on ebay for local run around cars to keep you going, its possible to pick up something with a bit of tax & ticket for a couple of hundred quid to keep you mobile.

Find the time, find the storage space, find the money at some point if at all possible. Its worth it in the long run.

cheers for the ideas guys. we have boooked her in with bongobis on monday for investigations, if it is a costly repair then they will give us a price for buying her if not they will fix her up.

well we have been to the garage, they looked at her, and said it is the head gasket, then quoted us
£370 +VAT for the head kit
£28 water tree
£7 anti freeze
£40 x2 + VAT for switches
£400 Labour

this is £922.82 (according to them!! my calculations make that lot £963.75)

I think these figures are off Head gasket kit is what a little over £100, havent a clue what a water tree is or what the switches are for!

we were then offered £500 to take it off our hands.
