Ok, thanks mate, I'll take that on board. further further update...it gets better/worse...BongoMTBer wrote:With those intermittent readings on the gauge, I would suggest another bleed. It sounds as though there may still be air in there.... you need to get it all out.
It is unlikely that any of the fans would be running whilst you are moving forward. They only really come on when you have stopped or are crawling after a hard workout, or you sit still for a prolonged period.
If you got all the air out last time, then it could well be there is a crack, failed gasket or hose letting cumbustion gasses or air in when the engine cools.
After a cool down I topped up the header tank again and took it out around town. No problems at all. round town driving combined with a splat on the dul carriage way. No movement in the gauge at all this time and no fans on when i returned. Good news, perhaps.
however, still a bit worried I had a look around for any leaks but nothing until I noticed some weeping (not drips) from under the mid drivers side of the car. I worked it out that it was coming from a flow and return from underneath where the rear passenger heater controls are. There are a couple of corroded looking pipes under there and some dried residue of water seepage. So I am assuming water must be leaking from there. Anyway, as I dried off the unions with a tissue I must have diturbed a peice of rust and it gushed out!!! That was at 5 oclock and I had to leave for work...
What happens now?
can those rubber pipes be easily sourced?
Will I need to weld up the pin prick hole in the metal pipe it was joined to?
I supposed I should be glad that flake of rust didn't fall off as I went along!..

When will it all end....
