I used to think New Brighton was brill as a kid ,going over on the ferry was an outing in itself. the old helterskelter and amusement arcades, its a ghost town now.
The old condoms are known as rubber lug, the old panty liners are known as Mersey Skate, some are more like Manta Ray,(bigger wings).
If you take a trip out to the waters edge on Crosby Beach, at very low tide, you will see hundreds on the beach.
The river is cleaning up, but there is still a lot of muck let out in the river on the out going tides.
I have caught Codling, Whiting, Eel, various flatties and eaten them for years from the Mersey, all you have to watch out for, is the Mercury...
