Different strokes for different folks but here is how I do it.
Clamp off the pipes at the reservoir remove the res wash it out with petrol, make sure its dry before you refit it. Fit the feed hose and using a piece of old pipe block off the return spigot at the res else you will have a nasty mess

.
Refill res with fresh fluid. Using a funnel connected to a drain tray place the end of the return pipe from the rack in the funnel mouth, start the engine and turn the steering from full lock to lock slowly, pause at the end of each turn, make sure to keep the res topped up at all times. Do this until you get clean fluid returning out of the pipe, switch off remove the bung and reconnect the return feed to the res. check levels and everything for security and thats it.
Personally I do this with the wheels turning plates on the ground but I cannot for the life of me think why?
Old habits etc.
If in doubt there are some You tube vids that cover it just dont let the system run dry.
As Mike says you should have the track adjusted too as you have fitted new arms.
P.S. you may have some fine bubbles appearing but these will sort themselves out.

Thanks for the reply bongolia,I knew you wouldn't let me down !
I'm planning to do this project one of the evenings this week along with adding the locus stop leak and fitting new inner and outer tie rods followed by a full alignment, it will be like a new bus
You will all think I'm sad but my first steering related project on this bus was fitting a momo wheel form an old mk1 mx5 , it looks and feels SOOO much nicer than the old one
Here's a picture of what I'm talking about

I hope you all are suitably impressed !
Thanks again
Brian

Good morning NB
I haven't really noticed to be honest but I can see how it would happen!
I have a spacer for the back of it so I was going to fit that either way as I feel my arms aren't long enough to grip it comfortably
I changed the drivers side inner and outer tie rods last night and plan to do the passenger side tonight, while there I noticed that the universal joint between the rack and column has play so must change that, can anyone tell me if this is a common fault ?
Thanks
Brian

Thanks for that NB
That's a good tip about marking the UJ relative to the column and rack
I've ordered one this morning along with some other bits so they should all be here early next week , yepee more playing with the bongo !
I was hoping to get alignment done tomorrow to have the bus for the weekend but should I wait until the UJ is fitted do you think ?
Thanks
Brian

Hello all
Well bongolia was correct as always , flushing the steering IS a messy job ,at least when it's done by me
But done it is and I added the stop leak as well so we will see if it does trick !
Will report when. I know more
Thanks all
Brian

Hello all
Well I've replaced the steering UJ as NB suggested and now I have a perfectly slack free steering feel !
Thanks you for the advice and the photos NB .
Next suspension /steering related project is fitting the air bag system to the rear coil springs might even try and do it this weekend but the weather is so good it might be left until later , either way I'll keep you all in touch as to prigress M
Thanks again
Brian
