Right, my conclusion....
Bearing in mind one gauge is on the acc & the other running off the starter ignition.. So there is a slight delay in when they start assessing the temps..
Each separate gauge appears to follow each-other on both channels within about 1c maybe 1.5c of each-other taped to the kettle to about 86c... But i think it was fighting against the air flow running through the van with the door open?
Using a heat gun...

They all shot up past 100c to & past 125 till the high error message came up, widening the gap a couple of degrees as i played the gun on the probes still strapped to the kettle!!
What with four channels sampling temps at different times it was hard fer me to keep track of what was going on...
All i can say is the new unit didn't start reading sub zero temps above 75... & my unit ties the temps up when strapped to the stubs...
If someone has two units that are programmed correctly, a controlled environment & more time? Feel free!
I've had enough...

My 2 replacements arrived today, worked ok when tested in a kettle boiled up, at BP one was reading 101ish, t'other was reading 104/105 ish, not the most accurate, but good enough for what I want & at least htey didn't go squiffy above 75 degrees.
Unfortunately, despite 3 remiders to the sellers, they still failed to send me the 3 metre leads that I paid for

I will persevere as I am in a particularly cantackerous mood ATM

Back on topic, here are some DIY temperature gauge probe placement ideas...
- lid of the air cleaner (
Diagram 1330C, Part 13-320)
- EGR blanking plate on the intake elbow (
Diagram 1300C, Part 20-306A)
- air intake hose joints to metal pipes above the intercooler (
Diagram 1311C, Part 13-332P)
- exhaust valve - metal temperature and gas temperature (
Diagram 1355C, Part 13-540)
- exhaust manifold, high-temp sensor (
Diagram 1310C, Part 13-450)
Matt.
Edit: I have
this many sensors to play with!

Sensors each side of the intercooler would be interesting D+P.

Before and after removing the light coating of oil from the inside. Yes.

Have purchased a Blue LED digital thermometer from sure electronics with the DS18B20 sensor, unfortunately it don`t work accurately, surprise- surprise. They are sending a replacement unit & probe `soon`on the slow boat from china!!!!!! I now have red & blue unit display to play with (sad B,stard) hopefully driver & passenger will have some constructive- deconstructive applications to the sure issue.

How frustrating!!! Can you expand on "don't work accurately"? If it's got DS18B20 sensors on it, rather than NTC thermistors, I would be somewhat surprised if what you are seeing is two sensors reading wildly different temperatures, as opposed to, say, the 'old' bug where numbers 'go negative and jump about'.

To driver & passenger, the blue LED unit with the DS18B20 sensor did not show a reading after the decimal point throughout the temperature range, ie blue led would show a reading with the figure after the decimal point missing ie 80. c the red led running in tandem for comparison purposes with the standard probe would show 80.5c.Sure requested photographic proof which I sent to the customer services unit, their immediate response was to advise that a replacement unit would be despatched forthwith, I`m still waiting for the repalcement. Will be contacting
them tommorow to see when replacement was despatched. will advise on the outcome

That sucks. These are essentially fairly simple devices. Sounds like their quality control really sucks!

I'm waiting for my HUD engine monitoring kit. We don't want this to turn into another mp3peoplecarrier custom dashboard saga, or the TV series 'Lost', which never seemed to end (bit like Downton Abbey is looking ha ha!).

Might be a step closer with this...
