It allows you to close the door quietly on campsites at night. I don't know if that's why its made that way, but it seems to be to be quite a neat feature - far better than slamming the door!

The sound of a VW sliding door slamming shut compared to the gentle hum and soft click of the Bongo door shutting makes a great difference late at night on a campsite....

So how does the door assist work then? Do you close it so far then the motors kick in and it closes it for you? No buttons or switches to press?
you shut your door as usaul and you will here the motors kick in then it pulls the door into the van then it clicks into place, if that makes sense.
ps if you open the sliding door you will or should have a set of 4 metal studs with in a black plastic surrond,2 of them slightley pressed in permanently and a set of recievers on the inside of the pillar

On our Bongo we slide the door almost closed then there is a whirring noise then it clunk -clicks itself totally shut.

No I can confirm that there are only two contact buttons on mine which obviously control the C/L. However, the plastic wotsit where the contacts go has a number of punchouts to take the buttons but mine only has the two. So the answer to the mystery is - no not all Bongos have the autoclose function on the sliding door. Never mind, less to go wrong I suppose.
