I'm having the same issue with my '96 2.5TD. Any results yet? I have downloaded and translated the wiring manual.. my mechanic thinks it might be a faulty ground. Let me know if you'd like the pdf and I'll try and find a way to share it.

Hiya, since the gear selector was changed it's 99% better, I think it may have happened once or twice since, that's over quite along period.
Have you tried a different gear selector?
