touch wood - never been caught for speeding yet - albeit I try not too and there has been a couple of incidents with a mobile camera in a van where I thought I was going a tad over
as insurance goes for the beast - I will be contacting admiral shortly - which I think they will cut me short because of the mods
staysure was freetops only - which was the insurer for tin tops ?
andy
ahaaa just found it
2 gether

More accurate than a mechanically driven speedometer I would suggest. There are so many variables that affect a speedometer that I never trust it.
OEM speedometers typically underead so as to prevent any litigation toward the manufacturer from someone claiming that their speedo was telling them they were doing 30 when they were really doing 35 for instance.
Fitting tyres with an increased circumference can bring your speedometer reading closer to the true reading. (with a handy reduction in odometer reading too

)

well at present standings
admiral will cost me £450 to insure from £210 for my freetop
and they will only give book price and repair to standard
so - a no go
I am ongoing with 2 gether and they have the pic so no hidden issues
Kimberley is looking around for a price for me
if it comes back at a daft price - the whole thing will be a no go
I don't mind changing vehicles - but im not into buying money pits - just for the looks
I will stick with my baby
but we will see - im only on the first hurdle

20" wheels sounds huge to me - I rather like running on stock 15" alloys as it gives a much more comfortable / forgiving ride. The only way you will know for sure is taking it on a test drive and getting the steering on full lock to make sure there is no rubbing against the bodywork. I would imagine 20" tyres are also significantly more expensive than 15" ones so that is something else to consider.....

if I don't go and satisfy myself - it will be bugging me like a good one
at least it will steer me in a direction - I hope -
you may see my bongo in the for sale section come Monday afternoon

hello all
well went to see the beast sat lunch - afternoon
its a no go -
too much to put right - although the dealer asked me what bits could he do to make me happy
I think she had a hard life for the 51 k miles on her
I cannot slate the dealer - because that's how he did import her - but just wish he had explained a little deeper in condition
he was a nice enough chap - and had a coffee in my hand within 5 mins of arriving
standing 6 ft away she looked as per photos
1-2 feet away you could see the rough workmanship of the spoilers etc
i wont go on - and all i can say is that where ever there was a piece of body kit attached - it needed attention
as for the inside - it needed a doner vehicle to sort most of it
i maybe should have took notice of the 3.5 jap grading
i certainly will next time regardless of photos
but as she was up for 7k - and the dealer explained the 3.5 rating - this was for the front and rear bumpers, and a scuffed alloy ( bumpers had been done - and a top job they were ) i had to convince myself it was
a go or not
never mind - i cant say you live and learn - if the beast had of been immaculate - or as good condition as mine for example
i think mine would have been for sale this morning
so got back - washed - waxed - hoovered - back to black on my black bits - polished the inside ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
and of course apologised to her - told her a white lie and said the black beast was for the wife

Hi
Ah....now that might say something...a new set of wheels on yours, and , perchance, a change of colour?????....nothing like a new paint job and a wee bit of customising!....
Cheers
Helen

I think ive been spoilt lol
I think I may look at some cupboards for the roof
cant seem to find them - there was a set of 2 available
one that went along the drivers side and a small rear one that sat in the rear passenger side

Hi Andy
Lovely interior....all you want now is a custom steering wheel and a wooden dash kit!....maybe a few add-on extras, or some engine tuning?....With a nice Bongo like that , you don't need too much extra!....I know the feeling , though, it's time for a change, but, hey, you'll get over it!....maybe a nice mini-caravan like a Gopod, or an Eriba....

...hells teeth, you have a nice Bongo!
Cheers
Helen
P.S. I've been looking, too!...must be spring in the air

thanks Helen - I found the top cupboards - they are from --- ------- / I don't know if its allowed to mention name
they still do them and are available
but I think I have discovered my next mod
a bongo that's for sale on here - has a rear mod so the rear bench seat can be removed and you use the mod ( shelf ) to make the double bed - so to speak
I like it - and less weight on the rear and more room inside
he has done a very nice bit of workmanship
I think there could be a market for such an item
I rarely use my rear seat - and only use it for when I camp out etc
