For the ATF I took mine to someone who knows what he's doing. But no special tools.
A Pela pump is a handy thing for sucking most of the oil out first, because the oil level is normally above the top of the sump so as soon as you loosen the bolts....
Also you need to be careful with the gasket unless you buy a new one in advance. Pattern ones aren't too dear but genuine Mazda ones are about £30.00.
Get some decent oil too, Millers Millermatic ATF DM

Diff oil?
ATF oil?
I was wondering about doing these on mine as have no history of ATF oil change. Is it really a DIY job (no special tools required and no pit) or best taken to an auto transmission specialist?
simon jones may do your box oil for you he loves getting under bongo,s he lives nearby and has finished doing his now so may need something to do.

Grrrr. Absolutely hated trying to get the level right

. You can do the whole job on axle stands to get the sump off to clean the filter and magnet. My biggest tip is to carefully measure the amount removed and fill with the same amount of fresh Dexron III spec. Will write up my notes at some point on V6 gearbox which is slightly different to the diesel. Just about managed to blank out that whole experience.
