You've just done the exact same job I did some years back. Fan has been trouble free ever since and no more mildewy smells. Well done

Hi... this is the closest thread I can find to my fault.
I have year 2000 petrol 2 litre. The fuses / wiring looks very common for most models.
My front fan stopped running.
here is what I have tested
rear fan runs on front fan setting 1 and above
applied 12v to plug on back of radiatior.front fan runs ok
fan spins freely by hand
Under bonnet fuse no.17 30amp ok
rear heater fan running so fuse no.15 ok.
resistor pack not yet checked
It looks like im not getting and power to the fan
Any other tips appreciated

Have you got manual or digital climate controls? The manual ones have a resistor pack which are prone to failure if the bearings are tight as this places extra current through the resistor which tends to melt the solder connections. I would guess yours is the later type with a transistor in place of the resistor and these seem more resilient but if they do fail, it's a little trickier / expensive to fix.
Best bet would be to try to get the loan of another unit to swap it over.

If you do have the transistor type then it will only operate when set for MAX fan setting (a relay bypasses the transistor), the transistors are available its a 2SD1525 type see ebay search

you say that you have powered the front rad fans. the loom that supplies these is located behind the top of the front rad, off this same loom you will see the supply wire that supplies the heater fan, try putting a new 12v to this, sometimes its the resister, sometimes its the motor of the heater, sometimes its a badly corroded heater motor that takes out the resister.

g8dhe mentioned if its the transistor type the fan should still run on full, it doesnt run at all.....
Where is the resistor / transitors clock located a wire could be off

Manual controls will use a resistor. It's mounted on a heatsink which is under a black plastic cover on top of the main heater unit under the bonnet. The fins of the heatsink are located in the airflow from the fan to keep it cool. This is what it looks like. The highlight shows where one of the solder joints has come undone:

I pulled it out and it looks Ok.. I checked the resistances keeping a probe on L each tab read approx 0.5 ohms (im not sure if this is correct)
My vin is sgew-4007**
The Wiring diagram for my Vin would not load up but the earlier model looks like it might be the same

Above the motor in the diagram is G1-03 relay.... This is located behind the main battery Small Black wire small green wire and a large Blue and a large Blue and white. I removed the relay and shorted the Blue and Blue and white
"Still no luck"
