True, and I found my Bongo brakes can fade after lots of upping and downing in the Yorkshire Dales with a full load on board so since then I've always used the gearbox for braking where possible, to keep the brakes cooler.

True, and

Might be worthwhile changing the brake fluid.

Using the Hold button saves fuel when climbing hills ..
It's better than giving the engine more 'gas' to get some extra revs ..
Slogging an engine is not good .. so it's kinder on the mechanicals as well ..!!

Good point, and I thought of that, but I don't think it was the cause. The brakes were being worked v hard, and I had a very heavy load on board, and the Dales are seriously up and down, so it was an extreme test. Never had a problem since.

A point to remember with brake fluid is that 'normal' brake fluids will intermix up to DOT5.1 .. but .. Dot 5 will not as it is silicone based..

Could never understand why the silicone based versions where never given a completely different 'code' ..

When did your vehicle last have a BF change,and what do you think was the cause.

A long time ago. But the symptoms weren't this:
