i presume the old plug is on the left and the new plugs you fitted are on the right.
then you say you have fitted long plugs ??. the one on the right looks like a short plug, (FROM THE TOP OF THE THREAD TO THE TOP TIP) but the lower length is wrong. are they ranger/bongo plugs ??. they look too long at the lower end, they may have touched the bottom of the metal pocket that they sit in in the head, and shorted/overheated.

check the plugs you got were the correct ones.

bloody local bosch service centre recently gave me the wrong ones, even though i ordered the ngk correct ones. #-o #-o

Hi,was the tip of the plugs damaged, try and get plugs with the same lower dimension as the originals.[/quote]

Tips were fine, apart from not working.

Stu, I just replaced my long plugs with NGK701J short ones without any probs. Just had to bend the rail a bit.
In stock at my local motor factor, so I guess you shouldn't have a problem getting them up there. Bit pricey but supposed to be good.

Hi Ady, I am confused now, the ones that came out I think are wrong as I think they are suzuki vitara ones? according to the service history. Even though it looks like they've lasted 5 years.
The overall length of both is 101/2 mm and there was not much clearance above the fuel lines, so I think I need the long ones.
Or do I?
I need to order these asap tonight as I need the van for work. But dont have a clue what I need now :?

From the compatible Parts Database above by courtesy of the bongomeister:

The elusive 102mm glow plug has been found. And all along, guess what? It is the same as on a Ford Ranger pick up!

My local parts place's book had the short plugs listed for the Ranger, so I fitted them and bent the fuel lines slightly.

I think I may go down this route, it may be easier.

The only 102mm glow plugs available on ebay at the moment are Japanese HKT brand, has anyone tried a set of these. I have had some Original servicing parts from the supplier Nippon Auto Parts who are based in Wales before but never glow plugs.

The ones I took out were HKT and they have appeared to last 5 years.

Latest update, a freind of mine took the plugs to a local motor factor to match them but did not tell them what they were from, eventually matched my original plug and they turned out to be blue print ones ADK81801 exactly the same no. as the Vitara ones in the service history. Fitted them this afternoon and the beast fired up first turn of the key. RESULT! :D

This must be the most expensive repair ever. Stuc ,you bought another Bongo because you did not think that you would be able to fix this one. Well now you have a diesel (4WD?) for winter and a petrol 2WD for summer, best of both worlds?

Tony, wish I could keep both but the diesel must go, I must admit after driving it again today I wonder If I did need a new one. But looking forwards I can see this new one giving many years of service. I have decided to keep my Mondeo and run it till it dies rather than change it. So we have spent the money on a Bongo instead. It makes sense as we use the Bongo for family days out nearly every weekend.
