Peeps regularly quote £250+ on here for a V6 cambelt change.
Even if you get the bare minimum service on top (oil, filters & a once over), that sounds fair as long as theres some comeback if a tired tensioner or somesuch is missed & bites you in the bum a couple of months down the line.

Rita - Algys aren't a dealer they are an importer so I already own the vehicle in full since before it left Japan. Hallen get it through the SVA but I think I might wend my way to Plymouth to see someone with an excellent reputation - only to see his Bongo pickup of course

Algys also registered my vehicle to themselves before they handed it to the customer, which, given they state the vehicle is your responsibility once landed seemed a bit strange. Must be a work-around of some sort...

Sure, they serviced it, but all the electrical conversion work has been completed with Scotchloc connectors. Cheap I grant you, but not a professional way to do the work and it does make me wonder about the rest.
Hey all. Just wondering if anyone knows another company who could carry out the electrical conversion work other than Hallen Imports? I'm thinking of having the service done by Bell Hill Garage, only because others have recommended them. Maybe Bell Hill could carry out the electrical conversion as well. thanks for any recommendations

HI,
Parts prices alone for doing a proper job would be more than is being quoted. If the price is just a belt change then I could see it being that price.
However, if you are going to have the van for a good long period then you need to make sure that the cam seals are done as part of the cam belt change. They are a little prone to leak on the V6 as I know from experience. A cam belt kit with the usual tensioners will cost approx. £270 the cam seals including crank seal will be in excess of £150. Then, whilst striped down to that level my garage advised a water pump & also the cam belt hydraulic tensioner. Shopping around the usual well known parts providers that most use in the club, still saw a parts bill alone of approx. £800. There is then labour, which for me came in at £350. However I now have a van that I know will have no major engine issues for many years. Whilst it is expensive it's well worth the peace of mind to have a van with tip top mechanicals.

The original posts where from five years ago ..!!
When I had my V6 Alphard converted to LPG I asked the guy how much for a cam belt change .. he instantly said £150 labour plus parts at cost ..
Re: the Cam / crank seals .. I tend to use any old seals as patterns and get them from an Industrial bearing supplier for a fraction of a dealers price ..
In relation to Motor bikes they tend to be of a far better quality than some of the Chinese stuff going around ..

For some reason, the recent question on this thread seems to be more about electrical conversion work. Bellhill do camper conversions but I don't think they tend to offer electrical work as a separate service. Last time I was there, Tom said he was not a fan of the V6 and at the time (4 or 5 years ago), they were not actively importing any for sale. Things may have changed since then but I decided to have my cambelt and seals done at Allan's in Plymouth as he has more experience of the engine. For electrical work, I'd stick to someone who specialises in that kind of thing rather than use a garage who tend to be better at the greasy stuff under the bonnet.
