Right, 20 places have been booked for the 3pm tour on Saturday 27th February. Don't let me down now, I don't want to have to sink all those free drinks by myself....

So who's definitely up for it (with numbers in your party) and who is just a 'maybe'?

Suggest we meet in the visitor's carpark at 2pm so we can stand talking Bongos in the rain for an hour

Wish I lived ooop north (or a bit closer to the border with Devon, perhaps!!!  ). I love the smell of breweries (I hate beer, mind you). I worked at Courages in Reading for a while and once I got used to it, I really liked that odd odour. As for a sossie shop. I shall put Masham on my list of places to visit (although I think I have been there before). Are there cobbles outside the brewery?

MountainGoat wrote:A word of warning. The smell of beer being brewed on a large scale is not very nice. Years ago when I was working at Warrington New Town Development Corporation a few of us from the social club were given a tour of Burtonwood's Brewery. I wish that I had taken a face mask with me.

On the other hand the smell of whisky being distilled is rather pleasing. But that may be the Scottish blood in me speaking.

I used to live near the Wards Brewery and walk past it each day - the smell still makes my heart melt - fantastic!

Ron Miel wrote:Sounds like one for us. We'll come if my second knee op, due on 22 February, gets postponed - probably will, as orthopaedics have been run ragged with snow and ice work, much of 2010 so far - and more due tomorrow/Wednesday. Will confirm as and when it's clear what's happening - going for pre-assessment, next Monday.

If so, so two oldies, no minors :)
We're still maybe's - hope to give you a definite yes or no after Monday.

During the WWII V1 and V2 attacks on London, my sister and I were taken down to Ramsgate for a while by a young family friend. His parents there already had full house, with East Enders they were putting up, so they got us dossed down in the malt loft of the brewery across the road. We were only there a short while, and then we decamped with our Mum, to stay with my Dad's sister and her husband in Blackpool - but meanwhile we had the smell of malt imprinted very deeply into our psyche's. I can smell it now, just thinking about it
