If buying LEDs it's worth getting decent SMT ones, search for power on ebay or check ultraleds.co.uk

(Fitment is 501/W5W/T10 aka wedge, 194/168, M4, 158, 2821, 12256, 2825)

I've just bought the ones on ebay described as "Hi-Power LED (Xenon White) 501 W5W Sidelight Wedge bulb" as well as a load from ultraleds (dearer) to sort out our new car

Will report back on how they perform

Thanks Mike - I always think it's dangerous to drive on parking lamps only. They tend to "disappear" when you're being followed by one of those extra bright German headlamps.

True, but in the old days of crappy dynamos (that we can remember too well!) you were virtually faced with a choice. Use headlights in slow traffic and watch your battery go flat, or use sidelights only. If the LEDs are bright enough, they might just be OK in dense suburban slowish situations. And I'd love to do the sums (which no-one seems to do) on what level of carbon emmisions result from excessive use of light e.g. Volvos running round all day with headlights on

I remember the days of dynamos - traffic jams, wipers and headlights - just pray you didn't stall
I think the extra emissions are far less than making us do 20mph in built up areas (except around schools whilst they're open) and those damned speed bumps

Ah, now there you have a very good point indeed. They are fuel inefficient, contribute to carbon footprint through causing more replacement parts to be made, energy consuming in their construction, cause noise pollution etc. etc.

NeilT (a Liberal councillor on our local council) suggested to me some time back that a challenge in the European Court was even being considered on the basis that they (speed bumps) caused damage and cost to car owners. No idea if there is any foundation in that but its an interesting thought.

That would be interesting Mike. I've often wondered if you could claim, off the council, if you shattered your suspension by hitting a speed bump at the speed limit of 30mph. After all, shouldn't speed bumps only limit you to the speed limit?????
