Nice one mike...I nominate you as our spokesperson for decent prices/products from vendors

It's a bit of a coincidence though, that willington started to produce a kit not long after you suggesting it...

I just missed out on one of those kits too, i went the same route as you mike, followed corblimey's instructions/info.

I think the idea was going round in his head but maybe I encouraged him to the idea that people would be waiting to buy them if he did it. He was very good and sent me detailed instructions on how to fit a system, but I was certain I wanted to fit until an idiots guide existed, and corblimey got there first. I'm fine with te CB system, just carry jumpleads (under the bonnet - plenty of space - useful to have with me anyway) for bridging if/when I deeply discharge the LB, plus I've fitted a neat panel mounted voltmeter for monitoring voltage. I may get round to fitting a willinton kit one day but its not a priority.

BF member Shad dropped round on Saturday and asked me what the leisure battery was useful for. I said not much really as you can't do fridges, heating etc. off it. The single most important reason for having one I think is that whatever you do, you can do it safe in the knowledge that if you do run it flat, your car isnt going to be stuck in a field in the middle of nowhere. That alone is reason enough to fit one I think.

And I do use it really (DVD, electric shower, awning light etc.)

My thoughts on the £75 plus VAT fitting charge. I took nearly 4 hours to fit it as I,ve never done any 'lectric stuff before so I checked and double checked everything before commiting. My fingers are still sore from making up the runs of heavy cable!

I reckon a professional could do it in hour and a half max so I do think the price quoted was a tad high!

PS.. Wadya mean a LB won't run a fridge??????

Trouble is that professionals have to average out the good ones and te bad ones plus cover various overheads. I think - as ?Dandy said - it is worth considering what a callout charge is for anything these days. Prices usually start at £70 or so. BUT the point is you grasped the nettle and did it yourself, saved the dosh and got a real feeling of achievement 8)
