Hi Skyfever

I had a very similar issue recently after an oil change, the day before I was due to drive to Switzerland my oil dumped just after start up :shock:

I had done around 45 miles since the oil / filter change before it decided enough was enough. I initially assumed it was leaking from the sump nut as I had used a washer this time, but after I had crawled underneath I realised that the oil was escaping from the filter. The filter was still tight but when we removed it the plastic gasket had come slightly adrift... And most of my oil was on the floor :( We re-attached the filter, filled with oil and I made it the 1/2 mile home.

I assumed maybe it was that I had not applied enough oil to the seal when fitting..? It seemed to still be tight, but was it too tight..!? Or as suggested the area that the filter attaches to was in some way faulty / damaged..?

The filter was purchased from the website, CMB11323 and it was a few mm shorter in length than the one I removed which was also the exact same make and model no but with an additional code of MD069782. I cannot find this code on the slightly shorter filter that had failed after about 45 miles.

I managed to replace it the same day with a Blueprint ADC42110 (labelled up as a Nippon) which again was slightly longer than the one that had sprung a leak?

We managed to clock up 2000miles after the smaller filter was changed and my paranoia of the filter leaking again is slowing dying off!

Could there may be 2 types of CMB11323 filter in circulation?

Thanks for that Woz - will try and get the filter specs. Any idea of the correct oil pressures?

Oil pressure relief valve.

The oil relief valve is on the side of the oil filter housing. I would have thought a staraight dismantle to ensure it was not sticcking in the closed position was OK but be very careful if you decide tp play with it to adjust the oil relief pressure etc. :wink:

Still trying to find out what the normal startup/running oil pressure should be on a diesel Bongo. Does anybody out there know?? Thanks :?

skyfever - any news? Could your problem be linked ot the faulty filters Ian at BF is now recalling? They were presumably being distributed through other vendors too.

Thanks to everyone for all the info and advice. My Bongo is back after six weeks away with the original oil filter fitters! Every reasonable avenue was explored and every associated device checked. Nothing absolute was determined but everything points to some failure in THE OIL FILTER! Several of the oil filters listed as suitable for use on the 2.5TD engine have differences, some very subtle! I am still not sure what the definitive oil filter should be?
So far my Bongo is running well with no oil problems - fingers crossed. I am pretty sure the situation is now stable. Even so, I now carry a full 5L bottle of FS oil as a back up!

Does this problem with the oil filters only apply to a specific batch manufactured on a specific date?
I bought the same numbered filter with the same bar-code from auto jap spares at the end of February.
I was in touch with the bloke at auto jap spares who hadn't heard of the problem at that time and said he'd not had any reports of dumping oil.
If i ever get round to doing an oil change, should i get another filter or can i trust this one? T.I.A. :?

I read that it is a very small minority of the filters actually causing any problem. If Auto Jap Spares haven't heard of any problems, I would assume that their batch is OK.

Cheers Franco, it did come a bolt out of the blue for the guy, as he'd been to busy to keep up with the forum recently.
If he's not had any feedback on dumping then i was hoping it would be ok.
Like i said, if and when i ever get round to it.
