Pump for changing ATF - Where can I get one?

Post by RobnKathryn » Fri Jun 15, 2007 10:36 am

I need to change my ATF and don't fancy the 'dropping the pan' method as described in the fact sheet as I understand that this leaves a quantity of ATF in the torque converter.

I meant a very helpful guy at the bash who had changed his using a pump. He told me the make and where he got it but I've forgotton!

Any ideas?

CGG500 500cc Oil Suction Gun
A simple yet effective means of removing or replacing oil in engine and gearbox sumps. Slim body with single stroke in line action enables easy access to awkward locations.

They do have bigger better ones like reverse action garden sparayers i:e: they suck rather than blow! but they are over £30.
This is the cheapest option. I have one and although they do take some time because they only hold 500cc it is quite easy. (NOTE- never tried it on a Bongo gearbox though and no doubt you would need a longer tube.)

A similar tool is this one I have one and it works, ...slowly! It sucks up the oil through one tube and discharges it through another into whatever container you have handy.

Thanks guys..........I've found the one I was thinking of now...it was a Pela hand operated vacuum pump 6 litre capacity..........£35 inc postage though.

I'm back tracking and thinking of dropping the pan now anyway so that I can clean the filter as well, as I'm told that a clogged filter is about as damaging as 'spent' atf.

Also the atf itself cost me £20, so I don't want to spend anymore!

The theory is good but in practice very difficult. There are 20 bolts to undo the gearbox pan and there are some 4 litres of ATF in it. Despite being extra careful, the whole lot tilted and spilt everywhere when I did mine. Next time I'll be extracting the ATF first.

Agreed Ian, I covered myself and my drive in atf today! It'll be a pump for the next change!
