Daft question, BUT...

When I bought our Bongo from the previous owner, I could've sworn he said that once the roof is "fully up", while the up button is held down it stops beeping. HOWEVER, now I'm holding the up button and it's carrying on with the beeping.

Do I remember wrong, or is something not quite right?

Ta muchly guys...

You could try giving the roof an extra push by hand in case it hasn't quite reached the top of its travel. Otherwise, it sounds like the microswitch which detects the end stop may be faulty. I'm sure there's been several posts on here before regarding this.

Beep beep beep as it lifts, then when it gets to the top it stops beeping.
If you havent had it up for a while the material can be a bit tight. Give it a gentle push to help it reach the top and it should shut up.
With use this will not do this as the material becomes slacker.

Remember on the way back down, it only comes half way down to give you chance to check nowt is stuck in there then release and press again to bring it down all the way

Correct. What the others say - if its tight a bit of manual assist is sometimes needed. The other option is to slightly lower the roof on the switch and then try another run at raising it!

Just another slant on this. Mine kept on beeping when apparently fully raised until I opened the roof hatch. Then the beeping stopped. It seemed that the suction effect was preventing it raising that last bit, enough to cancel the alarm. Once I lifted the hatch the beeping stopped. When raising or lowering, the roof is like a huge bellows and obviously displaces a lot of air.

SteveL makes no difference in my van.. does it do that all the time or was it just by chance? Just out of interest.

Just by chance actually. I've been keeping the hatch shut when raising the roof. I raised the roof right to the top, still beeping, so I got in the back of the van, pressed the button again, still beeping, raised the roof hatch, beeping stopped.

Opening the roof does suck a lot of air in, but I believe (despite some of the more far fetched ideas on this forum) that the "coke can" hatch is designed to allow the pressure to be corrected. As long as you haven't blocked this then the pressure will equalise between the roof and the body of the car pretty much instantly.
