Press the brake, CLONK. ideas anyone?
as described, when i press the brakes most times whilst driving, there is an audible 'clonk' like something is engaging which i dont think was there when i got the bongo 3 months back. im sure i can feel the clonk ever so slightly whn i have my foot on the floor of drivers side, off the foot rest.
brakes work fine and i cant replicate it stationary as its only after moving and it dont happen all the time.
any ideas anyone? im taking it back thursday for cam belt change, air con re gassed and a new motor and resister for the air blower as mine has gone. wanted any ideas before going to him so i can get him to have a look at it and give him an idea what it might be.
always check the spinning of the fan under the bonnet by the way. it siezes easily and then the resister burns out as it tries to feed more power to turn the fan. learnt that the other day but there was no way of knowing really, just one of those things. just went one day but now worth checking the free spinning of the fan assembly under the bonnet.

Does this 'Clonk' only occur when driving forwards having reversed and applied the brakes when going backwards?
If so try driving FORWARDS slowly, apply brakes hard, then reverse and again apply brakes hard. If you get the same clonk backwars & forewards it is merely the brake pads moving in the caliper. Perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. Honda CR-V's do it as well

Me tooooo!
Hey I have this clonk issue too. Ive had it for about 6 months, I think it started after I changed the rear brake shoes & pads, but cant be sure. It does it 8 out of 10 times when traveling forward only. I dont need to reverse to get it to happen. I usually need to be doing over 15mph to make it happen, sometimes the noise is fairly quiet other times its pretty loud. I haven't got around to looking at it as I think its going to be difficult to replicate as I need to be doing 15mph for it to happen. Maybe I could get someone to hang out the side door while im driving? Any volunteers?
Seriously though if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it, Ive searched the forum & this seems to be the first mention of it. Its probably nothing to worry about but it drives me nuts!
Clunk! Clunk! Clunk!

Clunk! Clunk! Clunk!
Springs
Ah Ha! Anti Rattle springs, are they the bits of wire or the flat plates? (The bits I threw away
) Well not exactly, the new pads were missing the plates so I guessed I no longer needed them, the pads looked slightly different anyway I figured there had been a design change. Also One of the wire springs was already missing when I came to replace them. So I only have one wire in. I guess this is also why my brakes squeak a fair bit
Any idea where I can get these parts?
I do feel a little silly now
I hope this fixes it, the clunk does sound very heavy though to be something as small & simple as this. Fingers crossed
