ABS retrofit?

Post by surfnut » Thu Jun 07, 2007 10:30 pm

If it`s not a stupid question, is it possible if you buy an early Bongo without ABS to have it retrofitted? Thanks, Surfnut

Agreed Aitch, retro fitting such a complicated, and safety related item isn't to be reccomended... Plus, if the airbag system isn't fitted too, it may make the vehicle difficult to sell in the future. (all the bongo's ive seen with a.b.s. have airbags)

It is possible to avoid ramming things even without ABS. If you really want ABS then don't look at vehicles witout it - retro fit is a nightmare.

Cadence braking is a primitive form of A.B.S. and this can be fitted for free!... just Release the brake momentarily on lock up,then re -apply, repeat till under control...

Or until you have an interface situation with the object you were previously trying to avoid...

Petite??? :?

Aha... the non standard bongo syndrome strikes again,i knew as i was typing it that somebody would say they had a.b.s. and no airbag

Ok... On very rare occasions, a bongo will have A.B.S. without the airbag.

Is there any sign of front accident damage on your bongo Wayne?
The two safety features (a.b.s. & airbags) Should go hand in hand as i see it, perhaps your mean, green, self starting machine has been in a shunt at some stage, and the airbag circuit isolated, and an older (cheaper) steering wheel was sourced? Maybe, Ya never know...

(p.s. spank me hard and ride the waves!)

Hello Waycar8

SRS written in the middle of the steering wheel is an indication of air bag fitted  :D

Cheers PJ.

I'm really lookin forward to Charity meet now
Gonna buy some leather undees.

p.s. I agree with most here. Dont mess with the brakes. In an accident, the insurers aint gonna like that you have fiddled with them (thats the brakes... not the insurers)
