scavenger fan

o.k. I gotta ask....Whats a Scavenger Fan and whats it for and where is it?

the scavenger fan is the engine compartment cooling fan

it is at the bottom front of the engine compartment

BTW good question I didn't know either till I researched a few days ago

If your handbrake lever gets hot, your scavenger fan is not working

It's there because there is no natural air flow to help cool the engine/compartment being tucked-up where it is.
You might also hear/feel it running before firing up, if the engine is still warm.

By-the-way Were you in Inverness today?

Thanks folks, will do a bit of research.
We've got a few Ford Rangers at work which I understand have a similar engine and seem to make a kind of 'roaring air' sound on acceleration.
Is this what I should hear?

Or could it be the turbo your hearing?

Nope - that is just the radiator fan. They often make more noise than the engine. The ranger doesn't have a secondary fan.

If your seat base/handbrake isn't getting hot then don't worry.
