Fan no longer blowing!

I've just noticed today in this hot weather that my fan/heater no longer works. When I push the air con button that works but I can't turn the blowers up. Hopefully it's not too technical.

Bet you it's the resistor assembly.

Or the blower motor.

Or something else....

Fan motor and resistor easy to reach just a few clips/screws/bolts. I had to replace both motor and resistor. Not cheap parts i'm afraid, but at least it's a diy job.

I originally found no matching contacts on the old resistor, and the fan would not turn manually on the motor, it was seized solid

Resistor can be fixed and some say that the motor bearings can be regreased but I could'nt be bothered

Hi Whatmore, it wont solve the problem, but have a quick check in the rain gulley below the windscreen trim (under the bonnet) there is a drain hole in the middle of the channel that is prone to getting blocked.

In some cases its so blocked, that you cant see it if you didn't know it was there

This drain hole blockage can cause the water overspill to soak the heater motor in water, causing it to eventually fail/seize.

The hole has a simple clear rubber tube attached that is around a foot long,this drains off harmlessly onto the floor.

Take the air intake off the blower motor and see if the fan turns easily, if it does, then usually it's the fan speed resistor that's gone - easy to replace but not a cheap item. If it doesn't, then it's a new fan unit and probably the resistor as well.

If it's your resistor that's gone, and you've got digital climate control, I've got a spare one that's been re-conditioned.
