Hi - we have been running our 2WD Freda for a while now and its been a brilliant bit of kit for our surfing and windsurfing trips. Its run without fault throughout. We changed the oil ourselves in September and have noticed that it has used about half a litre of GTD magnatec in covering around 4000 miles since then
Is that unusual for a bongo? Do others find they need to top up between oil changes? (We plan to change the oil and filter again in the next 1000 miles) There are areas in the engine bay that are a bit "black" but nothing wet or dripping is apparent, just a thickish oil 'dust' in some areas.
Any sage advice appreciated.
Cheers.
Oil consumption?

Nope - that is fine. Most diesels use a bit of oil and particularly the older type that we have. BMW specify anything up to 1L per 1000 miles is OK (it's not OK buts it avoids warranty claims coz most BMW's drink a bit).
VW/Audi tend not to use much oil, PSA tend to use a bit but all diesels are different. Don't worry about it and just keep it above the halfway mark.

Hmmm - not so good news now - don't know how we missed it at first but there is evidence of oil build up/drips off of a rubber pipe section that runs from a stub pipe in the the transmission sump out to the right hand side of the van and then vanishes forwards somewhere. This rubber pipe section is slick with oil.
No other components are damp at all, just this one.
Could anybody tell me what the pipe is/does maybe? I have no way of getting a picture of it for a few days unfortunately. I assume it would be easily replaced if we were to drain the oil in the engine first - looks like its only held on at each end with spring clips?
Does anybody know where I could order the part?
Again, thanks in advance for any advice offered.
